Hotel Suggestions

We will be attending a Saturday Wedding at the Safari Park. Any ideas for a place to stay on Friday & Saturday nights would be appreciated.

HI,

I am not aware of many hotels in that area except for some small local motels.

Is the wedding during the day with a reception to follow or at night??

I ask because with a car you could stay farther away and just drive unless it's at night when you probably wouldn't want to go far , especially if everyone is "celebrating" too much!

Have you asked the bride/groom if they have made any arrangements for out of town guests.

Hopefully someone who lives right in Escondido will come on with some ideas.

The Lawrence Welk Resort is not far but not sure you can stay there for just a weekend?

Wherever you stay you'd need a car to get there from the San Diego airport and to get around from the hotel to the wedding etc.

I've stayed in Escondido several times. The Holiday Inn Express and Best Western are fine. Not fancy - but fine.

The Best Western is probably the best choice. If you are willing to spend more, Lawrence Welk is very nice.

I live in Escondido so don't stay in the local hotels, but when I have friends and family staying in town for events, they usually stay at the Comfort Inn right off the 15 on Valley Parkway. It's basic, but clean. In searching local hotels, I've also noted that the Motel Mediterano gets pretty darn good reviews for an older motel. I have never had anyone I know stay there, but was surprised by the reviews being so good.

You're not going to really find any higher end hotels in Escondido proper, but if you go a little south, to Rancho Bernardo, there is a Courtyard by Marriott.

In town, you basically have Super 8, HOliday Inn Express, Best Western, etc. I've had family stay in all of those and no complaints... but, you know, you get what you pay for. Don't know if that is a huge help. Also, as others said, you can stay at Welk Resort if you want something nicer, but for a Saturday, it might be a little pricey in the summer. Weeknights run around $120 last time I checked.

If you are looking for something nicer, near Escondido you have a couple of Indian Casino Hotels in the Valley View Casino and Hotel, and the Harrah's Rincon Resort.

I would recommend Valley View and Harrahs also. V V is more of a boutique hotel attached to the casino and very nice. Their lobster buffet is the best around. Harrahs is Harrahs, a high rise hotel similar to what you will find in Vegas. They just opened a new pool area this week with a lazy river.

And one nice thing about the Valley View Casino, if you sign up for their free Slot Club Card, you get a free Lobster Buffet.

(And as some other posters here in the TA California forums have been promoting the 7-11 free Slurpee, I would much rather get all you can eat Lobster for free, than a very small free cup of flavored ice...)
