We are planning to stay at Hilton Garden Inn & do a Starline tour of LA. Although,the tour operators do have a pick-up/drop facility, the total time taken for a 3hr tour seems to be 6hrs since the tour starts only at the Chinese Theatre. (Reviews from TA members)
How much would a cab cost to go from the hotel to the Chinese Theatre? Or will it be better to use a rental car ?

It's about 15 miles from the Hilton Garden Inn in El Segundo to the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. You're sure there's no closer pick up point?
The cab ride would cost roughly $45-50 each way. There are transit options, with one or two transfers, though it would take over an hour. A rental car, if you could rent it and return it the same day, would most likely be cheaper than a cab.
@Wanderer, Starline does have a pick-up from the hotel , but reviewers of the tour have pointed out that the entire trip becomes very long.
Probably we should now consider a rental car. Is parking near the Chinese Theatre easy?
There's a giant underground parking garage at the Hollywood/ Highland shopping center, which is adjacent to the Chinese Theatre. People have quoted the rates on here before, they didn't seem that high. You'd need to park in a garage or a lot to leave the car for a few hours.
