Need Advice

We have an option of staying at the embassy suites los angels airport, the staybridge suites, the clarion near home depot in la, the holiday inn in torrance or the ramada limited redondo beach. Which would you stay at. We are coming to La for a Lakers game.

None are great choices as none are close to downtown where the Lakers play at the Staples Center. I'd go with the Embassy Suites at LAX I think. If your only purpose is to see the Lakers game, the Clarion in Carson or Holiday Inn torrance will work too. The Redondo Ramada is somewhat near the beach but other than that the worst located for reaching downtown.

Why are you limited to these hotels? If you are just looking around and these seem to be what's in your budget, please share your budget with us I'm sure we could do better for you.

Well it seems that we cannot get a decent airfare for the dates of April 2 thru the 5th. Our budget is just to spend perhaps anywahere from 1000.00 to 1200 fo rthe weekend since we have to pay thru the nose for Lakers tickets. If you can make suggestions on where to stay and perhaps get Lakers tickets please please let us know. Also we are trying to avoid paying parking fees at the hotel. I don't mind being approx. 10 miles away from Staples center as we will be renting a car. Thanks

That's what happens when you travel over Easter.

Why those hotels..are they free with points or are you trying to earn points?

The Clarion in Carson would be easy to get to Staples, it's a short drive down the freeway and you would have free parking at the hotel (but not downtown). There isn't much of anything to do in the area, other than go to the Ikea at the mall across the street.

I notice there is a Comfort Inn in Manhattan Beach that is probably a nicer place to stay. Although it will take you longer to get to Staples.

If you're trying to cut down on expenses, I'd skip renting the car altogether and stay in downtown L.A. This way, you could walk to Staples or take a bus, metro rail or short taxi ride and you would avoid paying for the car rental, gasoline, insurance (if applicable) and parking. Express bus from LAX to downtown L.A. is $7 per person.

Are you saying $1000 to $1200 INCLUDING the Lakers tickets? Where are you in NJ? Are you looking to depart EWR or PHL or ?

If you stay in El Segundo, it's very easy to drive to Staples Center. We do it all the time. Get right on the 105 Freeway at Imperial Blvd, drive to the 110 for about 7 miles, turn north on the 110 for another 8 or so miles, get off on Pico, follow the signs. With no traffic and car pool lanes it's about 20 minutes, double that if it's rush hour. (don't know when your game is).

The Hilton Garden Inn in El Segundo might be cheaper than the Embassy Suites rate you got, and has a outdoor swimming pool in a quiet area. You'd be closer to the airport when your weekend is over. Free Parking, and shuttles back to LAX.

If we rent a car I don't care about driving say 10 miles to get to the Staples center but we also are going to Hollywood to sightsee

At this late date, I can't see how you're going to stay within your budget unless you're willing to compromise on something. Obviously, you're not expecting to include the car rental, gas, parking etc in that $1200 budget (I'm guessing). Driving 10 miles can take 40 minutes (or longer). What time are you willing to fly? Red eye? 1-stop flights?
