Places to stay in El Portal, CA |

Yosemite View Lodge and Cedar Lodge Motel are both booked during the time I'll be traveling to Yosemite. Are there any other places to stay in El Portal? Does anyone know anything about the Yosemite Redbud Lodge? Report as inappropriate |

There aren't any other places in El Portal. There are a number of B&B's along the way on 140 into the park, so I assume the Redbud is one of those. There'a also the Yosebite Bug Inn. HAve you tried Yosemitewest.com? Report as inappropriate

Thanks macjack. I'll check out Yosemitewest. Our plan was to stay one night in Fish Camp, a couple of nights in El Portal then one night in Lee Viving. How long does it take to get to the Village and Tioga pass from Fish Camp? Maybe we can just spend more time in Fish Camp and skip El Portal since we'll be coming in from the South. From Fish camp, about 45 minutes to the Valley, unless there's a huge line at the PArk gate. From the valley, it's about 25 minutes to reach Tioga Pass Road. If Yosemite West works out, that would be a good place to base your visit. Report as inappropriate

This is a comment about Macjack's helpful suggestions. It is true that the Tioga Pass Road Hwy 120 is probably about 20 minutes or so from the valley floor to Crane Flat where it goes east and on to Olmstead Lookout, Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows and Tioga Pass- all worth a stop- But it takes about two hours minimum to drive it and really enjoy stopping along the way to the Pass itself. From there it is a dramatic drive down Lee Vining Canyon. You might want to stop for a snack or cool drink / coffee at one hundred years old Tioga Pass Resort about a mile outside of the park between lovely Tioga Lake and Ellery Lake. www.tiogapassresort.com Report as inappropriate

Very true, Juday- thank you for the clarification. I just gave the times to the beginning of the Tioga Road- I didn't even want to guess how long the entire drive would take, scenic stops included. I'm glad you did, so sgt. will have a better "big picture" of the entire journey. Report as inappropriate
