I posted this earlier in the San Diego Thread -
Here's a few suggestions from a Native Nado person - who eats out in town 3-4 times a week - in no particular order
1. Brigatine - eat in the BAR and eat during Happy Hour for the specials! Great blackened swordfish tacos, not on the menu. Fish tacos, chowder, etc
2. Sushi Bar area at Peohe's (don't bother with the main restaurant) - they have a bar menu. (Not to be confused with the "bar bar")
3. Il Fornaio - (secret - coffee and pastry in the morning)
4. The Fish Company - great plate lunches, seafood & sushi. Very casual. Service can be slow - new owner
5. Mexican at Miguel's Cocina - try anything with the jalapeno white sauce!
5. Crown City Bistro for breakfast - on Orange Ave\near 5th\6th
(hidden gem)
6. Burgers - local dive bar - Danny's Palm Bar & Grill
7. Local dive grill Nite & Day Cafe - open 24 hrs a day
8. Swadee Thai - if you want something ethnic
9. Tartine - nice for lunch and dessert
10. Tent City - can be hit and miss
11. Villa Nueva Bakery Cafe - very casual bakery, great omletes, low prices, big portions
12. The Clubhouse Bar & Grill at the golf course for lunch
Places we avoid:
Yummy Sushi
Village Pizzeria
Tomaso's
Island Pasta - always busy - really marginal
Marie Callender's - chain
Bay Beach Cafe -good location, marginal food
Beach & Diner
Coronado Boathouse 1887 - overpriced
Primavera Ristorante - no windows
Marginal places to eat - tho'some like them - not my 1st choice
Coronado Brewing Company
Costa Azul
MCP'S Irish Pub & Grill - go for drinks Thurs pms, not to eat
Rhinoceros Cafe and Grill
Spyro's Gyros Greek Cafe
Unknowns
Chance Bistro - somewhat new, interesting menu, always busy, but not very comfortable location
Bino's - some say crepes are good - haven't been
