Gourmand, or anyone else, can you tell me how Brambles is? We will be staying at the Pelican Cove Inn later this month and we're considering a meal here. Also, what's good to order at the Black Cat? It will be our first time dining here, anything great and not to miss? We currently have reservations at Sow's Ear but may be swayed to change to Brambles. Is the ambiance nice in Brambles or is it pretty old-school? We love the ambiance at the Sow's Ear. Thanks! :)

Hi Syrahgirl! I tried Brambles when I first moved here - remembering it from my childhood and how all my parents and their friends thought it was great. Very so-so food. I would not recommend knowing what I know about your palate.

I love everything at Black Cat, so have anything you want. I also love Sow's Ear. Great place.

Now, the real secret hidden treasure restaurant in Cambria is Sea Chest Restaurant and Oyster Bar. It is right on the beach and hard to get into, but everyone says it is the best seafood restaurant anywhere. Some VERY famous people fly in just to dine there.

Also, may I suggest for some nice goodies at breakfast or for a snack the French Bakery, downtown Cambria. Very yummy. My husband cannot live without the asigio twists for his lunch. But lots of great sweets too.

Also, the quiche at Moonstone restaurant is superb. And finally, I love the food at Hoppe's in Cayucos. Just thinking about the salad with champagne vinegrette and blue cheese and candied nuts makes me want to get in the car and got there now. Ha!

Have fun. Let me know what you thought of everything.

Thanks, Gourmand! I think we'll keep our reservations for the Sow's Ear. I do love their Fried Brie and Patrick (manager/host) is such a kick and soooo kind to the guests. I know he is there on the weekends, we went on a Tues. once and the experience wasn't quite the same. :)

I have been to the Sea Chest once and loved the way my salmon was prepred, so simple yet wonderful. Bistro Sole is gone, isn't it? We will have one lunch before our dinner at Black Cat. We have dined at Moonstone Bar & Grill many times, but I haven't tried the Quiche, it sounds perfect for a light lunch. I believe the Pelican Cove Inn serves a very nice hot breakfast buffet, so we should be pretty well fed there.

I can't wait to get back to that cool ocean air and I'm so glad we get to stay the night. Very hectic schedules right now..... This is a real treat for the two of us. I've also put the French Bakery on my list. Any other thoughts, let me know! I'm trying to talk my parents into spending some time here, they love the area also. If we love the Pelican Cove, I may give my mom a night here for a birthday present in June. :)

Please let me know all about it. I have never heard of Pelican Cove so I definitely want to know about that. I never ate at Bistro Sole, so not sure of that place.

Lynns had a fire - so they have been closed since Easter, although they are not my normal rich fare. I do hope you love Black Cat.

It's cold right now here. So, you're in for a treat. (Of course everything could change at any moment.) I am still wearing my light jackets over tops every day, or light sweaters. Perfect clear weather.

Have a great trip!!

The Pelican Cove used to be the Cypress Cove. They merged with the Pelican Suites recently. Previously they were the sister property to the Fogcatcher which is now independent of the Cypress Cove. Now guests get to enjoy the full amenities of the highly regarded Pelican Suites. :)
