Anza Borrego in August

We will be in Escondido the first week of August and considering making the trek to Anza Borrego. Wondering if it will be just too hot or still worth is? Wanted to stop by the visitor center on the weekend plus hopefully take the Palm Canyon trail early am. Did not know if this is a reasonable expectation or other suggestions ? Will be 2 adults and 2 teenagers with limited hiking experience. Thanks for any tips!

Right now temps can get up to 116Farenheit. I wouldn't hike in that heat!!

Summertime in the desert is definitely not for everyone. However, with proper planning and the right expectations, it can be a wonderful experience.

The Visitor Center is not to be missed, in my opinion. The short (1.5) mile hike to the Borrego Palm Canyon waterfalls is doable for any reasonably fit person, and well worth it. Just plan to get out early, when the temps are still in the 80s to 90s. That way when the mercury hits triple digits, you'll be back inside. Carry (and drink) lots of water, and wear a big hat.

The plants, animals, and especially the serenity of the desert in summer make this as unique an ezperience as one can find in these days of mind-numbing sameness.

Listen to DanWright, but follow his precautions and do the Palm Canyon hike EARLY.
