grocery store

We're staying at a cottage in the area for a few days in late August, driving up from San Francisco. Are there any grocery stores or delis en route or in the area you can recommend where we can pick up a few things (ready-made dishes, juices, wine, etc.)?

The last big grocery stores are in the town of Sebastopol.....Safeway, Whole Foods and Luckys. After that the countryside is pretty rural until you get to Bodega Bay. There is a small grocery store there but I believe it only sells canned goods, bread, camping equipment, etc

If they're coming from San Francisco, they'll most likely be going through Petaluma, not Santa Rosa/Sebastopol. I know there is a Lucky's supermarket (unless it's changed names) in Petaluma - I think the turnoff is for Lakeville Road, which will take you to the Bodega Highway - anyway, it's on the right about a block after you get get off 101 at that exit headed to Bodega. It's in the same center as the McDonald's (which you'll probably see first).

Also, there are 2 grocery stores in Bodega and both are usually well stocked plus they do have some ready-made and deli foods in them. One is Diekmann's (on the bay side past The Tides) and the other is at Pelican Plaza (on the right at the next sharp curve and across from the Candy & Kite store). You can also order meals to go from the local restaurants, and Lucas Wharf and The Tides both have fish markets. Across the bay is the Spud Point Crab Company - not a sit down restaurant (has tables outside) which has great clam chowders and sandwichs.

There is 2 stores in BODEGA BAY, that are fully stocked and with ready made foods, there is also a great Country store in BODEGA, that has the best selection of ready made foods, famous for their Chowders and Sandwiches, You will see the signs as you drive into west county..and an Alfred Hitchcock museum also. I also suggest eating at the Casino Bar and Grill in Bodega, That is where all the locals eat and had the best chefs in West County Remember, Bodega and Bodega Bay are 2 different places. You can also get fresh cut local meat and poultry from the Valley Ford Market.. and the best desserts.

If you want to shop in Petaluma, your best way to get to Bodega Bay is to take the East Washington Street exit and go through town to the Bodega Highway. On your way you will pass several shopping centers with supermarkets.

Otherwise take the advice above for food. Have a great stay.
