Restaurant recommendation near the Double Tree

Hi,

I'm bringing my daughters to town next Thursday for a college tour of Berkeley and staying at the Double Tree. By the time we get in I think we'll be ready for dinner. Any recommendations for a nice place to eat near the Double Tree. We're looking for moderately priced and my girls like most good as long as it's not too spicy. Thanks!

The hotel has a restaurant, The Bay Grill and Lounge. If it were I, after a flight I would just eat in the hotel and not venture out at night to find something else.

Skates by the Bay is on the Berkeley Marina. You can check the menu to see if you are ok with the budget

Thanks, don't think we want to eat at the hotel. It seems like there isn't much around so we'll probably venture out.

There are several restaurants on 4th Street: Cafe M, Tacubaya, and O'Chaime come to mind. Unless you want to go even further afield into Berkeley. You may want to indoctrinate your daughter into the Berkeley way by going to Top Dog.

The big ikea store has food and you can check out dorm room furniture. Also in that area of emeryville one exit away is the public market with lots of food options in the food court http://publicmarketemeryville.com/

Very cheap, delicious Indian "snack" food on 4th St at Vik's. I crave the food from this place. Masala Dosa is yummy and not spicy. Self-serve, noisy, extremely casual.

If you want to go somewhere walking distance from your hotel, I recommend Skates on the Bay. The view can't be beat and the food is decent too.

If you want to venture into town, there are several options on nearby Fourth Street. Vik's Chaat Cafe is a great option, although it isn't open very late and is not right in the center of all the Fourth Street action.

Berkeley is small and you can travel just about anywhere in 10 minutes with a car. (Parking can be a different story!) Besides the widely available Indian food, there are any number of no-frills dining options near campus that would give your daughter a better picture into life in Berkeley. Try something downtown or along Telegraph Avenue if you can. We can give specific recommendations depending upon what you want to eat.

Hi - if you're looking for a nice place close to the marina, try Sea Salt on San Pablo. Closer to campus, some choices are Gather, Angeline's or Liaison (on Shattuck) or Lalime's, Vanessa's or Zachary's (in north Berkeley). If you want a 'real' Berkeley experience, have pizza at the Cheese Board - for 'a little too real' experience, go to Blondie's on Telegraph (just be sure to cleanse your palate at Cream).

Gather and Angeline's are both good. If Blondie's and Cream (ice cream sandwiches) sound too heavy, Kips and then Yogurt Park round the corner will also give you a "little too real" student experience.
