As a kid I remember this place next to The Hotel Esplendido on family holidays.
Been shut for many years.
Anyone know what if anything it is now ?
Chris - just seen your question. Not quite sure where you mean. Next to the Esplendido on the right as you are facing it is Las Olas restaurant. On the left is a house.
The Bar Traves was immediately to the left of The Esplendido as you look at it.
It was a small bar with a small terrace between the pavement and the slightly set back front of the building and was run by an elderly local couple.
The last time I remember it being open as The Bar Traves was in 1971. I was there as a youngster with my parents.
I`ve walked past it thousands of times since, and it`s never been open as a locale of any sort.
I wouldn`t be suprised if at some point it was purchased by the Esplendido and used as storage,or turned into residential useage.
I haven`t been to Soller/Port since 2010.
Yes, I think that was what must have happened - it's all the Esplendido now. It's amazing how things are changing in the port all the time. You will see a huge difference since 2010 especially now we have the new beach. Mind you it's far too hot here at the moment - we came at this time as it has been so hot in July and August in previous years so thought we would avoid those months this year but it's like a furnace as soon as you step outside! Really looking forward to some cooler UK air!
We were here 2 years ago, we're now in the port and there is a difference, it's looking a lot better.
Also whilst I'm on , best place for cocktails on the port please?
I'm sure mayaling point it out; it's all in the Esplendido now.
I'm not a coctail fan, but I know many who visit Bar Roma for a coctail.
Have a look at this site: barroma.com/index.php/en/the-restaurant
Thanks, just around the corner from where we're staying, we'll pop in our way out!!
Any other reccys much appreciated.
Sorry markpool - I'm not an alcohol expert but how about the Dragonfly cocktail lounge?
Markpool - try Cava it's on the corner next to Albatros on the Port side. It's new and very nice.
If you really want to push the boat out, the Jumeirah hotel has a Sunset bar which has fantastic views over the sea. Expensive, though.
Mayaling, I think Dragonfly is closed?
We had a really nice night, cocktails at the Randemar sat outside and they had a jazz duet on which made it nice, we then had a meal at the new restaurant Nunu and the food was excellent although our wait time for our main course was excessive.
Bar Roma was full so we could not get a seat.
I must say since our last visit to Soller two years ago it's a lot busier, we used to stroll along a near deserted port at midnight back to our hotel, last night it was heaving with people.
Aaaaaaagh, the secret is out!!
Diecysiete - Just walked past the Dragonfly and it is open although only a couple of people in there. Everyone is watching the football in the other bars!
