Both hotels are on the same property. I stay there every year and prefer the Beach rooms over the Reef rooms as the hallways in the Reef portion are very loud . If there are a lot of party people staying at the resort, the noise they make coming home echoes like crazy. Wakes us old people up lol.
Yes they are like one resort
Thank you. We are a family travelling and so appreciate the not so late nights. Sounds like the Beach side would be better. So overall you have been satisfied with the resort?
I would not recommend this hotel for a family, regardless of age. It is a nice property with great beaches and staff, however the food is par at best and very repetitive and the hotel has very few amenities. Locals are allowed to stay from Fri-Sun and completely take over, complete mayhem.
If you plan on heading out off the resort, you should be warned. Sosua is fueled by prostitution and drugs, very seedy. However, there are PLENTY of great places to eat!! Have you been to the DR before?
I could recommend numerous resorts in the DR for families, but not Casa Marina or Sosua.
Just my opinion,
I have some issues with d-r-guy. The hotel I cannot comment on other that all resorts have locals staying at them and more so on the weekends. However 'take over the place" is a bit strong. Just like your resorts in Canada with local canadians staying there.
As to Sosua, yes there are "working ladies" about but they are pretty much found in a one-two block area down town. There are lots of families that live here (us included) who enjoy the local restaurants, shops, bars, and beaches.
Thanks everyone for your replies....we have visited the Samana area and enjoyed spending time on the public beach there. I would never expect to visit a country and remain sequestered from the local residents....We do plan to venture off the resort and plan to head to Cabarete for some surfing and perhaps some excursions through Iguana Mama. As for the working girls...I have encountered much of the same in Honolulu and Vegas...not too concerned about that especially because we will probably not be out in town much at night.
You will have a great time travelgurl111. My husband and I have stayed at the Casa Marina 12 times and as long as you are not expecting perfection, you won't be disappointed! And, we eat in the local restaurants, have drinks in the local bars, go spend days on Sosua beach and we have never, ever felt unsafe outside of the confines of the hotel. You sound like you have the right attitude to really enjoy your holiday, and I am sure you will.
Its an ok resort but dr guy is rite. The food is terrible and the resort is not really great for families especially if u have little ones. The town is great. Lots of restraunts and bars. And the beach in town is awesome.
d-r-guy and others, why not do formal reviews of the hotel and restos you have good and bad experience with?
