it does not matter really if there are "many around at the moment" as it only takes one bite to get malaria. Just take some DEET repellant and sleep under a net to protect yourself. Other than that and the anti-malaria pills you cant do much else.

There are plenty around here at the coast as the Long Rains are just coming to an end, not many when your are out and about on or near the beach though as there is a strong breeze / wind coming off the sea

When we go out September we have an ocean fron room at the hotel we stay at overlooking the beach.

We have found that there are not a lot of mossies as the above poster has stated there is always a breeze coming off the sea.

The bed also has a mosquito netting which is turned down in the evening but we tend to tell the steward not to do this as have not had any mossies in the room.

Also netting on the sliding doors to the balcony and the window in the bathroom..

We also take an electric ball with chips to ward off any stray that get into the room.

We have never had any in the restaurants in the hotel - perhaps see the odd one when opening the door to go to dinner and at the entertainment area which is very near to the beach there are hardly any at all.

We always go to the Mara for a week and have never been bothered with mosquitos in the evening and early morning - perhaps due to the altitude height at the camp and the cold and during the day the odd fly.

I have a repellent safari hat that I wear during the day that wards off any likely mossie around or flies.
