There is the upmarket Imperial hotel right in town centre or you could try Le Savannah Hotel. Other posting may suggest other alternatives.

Good luck

There seem to be many hotels, but not all of the have a website, and the same few seem to appear in reviews or in guidebooks.

Look at TA's Kisumu hotels and guest houses for a start. I am travelling to Kisumu in January, and am in the process of reserving at the Imperial. They are undergoing upgrading to bedrooms at present so I am having to wait until they've finished and repriced their rooms before my reservation is confirmed.

I would suggest you also consider Dewchurch Drive which is a sister hotel/annexe of the Le Savannah, Milimani resort and the Duke of Breeze.

Do be aware that some hotels in Kisumu are run by religious groups and therefore you may not drink alcohol on the premises, also that not all have swimming pools. Mosquitos are said to be a hazard here, so make sure that you have adequate protection, or pay more to ensure air conditioning (which mossies don't like) and/or good nets in the room.

Please do post back and let us know how you got on. I for one would be grateful for as much advance information about the area .... and have a great trip.

it sounds as if you don't want or need anything particularly swanky. The Imperial Hotel is extremely expensive. Try the Kisumu Hotel run by Maseno University - I had a day room there for little money last year and it''s only a step from the town

I tried to contact the Maseno University run hotel by email for at least three months with no replies before settling for the Imperial as I need guaranteed night time electricity for a medical device.

I hope they reply to you - their product looked very good and I was very frustrated by their silence, but didn't dare telephone ..

http://thevichotelkisumu.com/

Its located near a shopping mall and quite new,and they have a generator.

Cheaper and near the Imperial is the Duke of Breeze which hosts many volunteers and has a nice view from its bar,of the city. The Savannah hotel and annex are not easily accessible. The annex is near another mall but extremely noisy due to being located next to a main road. There is also a nice christian place called Jumia guest house ,superb pool and no alcohol.

www.thevichotelkisumu.com worked for me, the link above didn't seem to want to load ...

I am intending to book at the Imperial, but am awaiting rates for 2012 which haven't yet been established.

Interesting selection here!! Imperial is probably the most expensive. Sunset has good views. Is the Maseno University Hotel still operating as a hotel?

Victoria is right in town...our group had breakfast in their Cafe last week.
