Snorkeling in July

I am travelling to Tanna and Port Vila in July and I would appreciate any information concerning water temperatures. Is it necessary to use a wet suit when snorkeling? Any memorable snorkling sites or places to avoid?

You wont need a wetsuit at any time of the year on either island.

A great place to snorkel is at the reef drop off right in front of Tanna Evergreen Resort. There are also some buoys a little further out where turtles hang around. The coral is live and very colourful with millions of fish.

From Port Vila there are a few good snorkelling sites depending on your level of confidence. There is nice coral, fish breeding area and some large friendly fish off Tara Beach Resort (just ask a bus driver to take you there and expect to pay about 500vt) or more crowded is Hideaway Island. Off Havannah Beach there is some nice snorkelling and large clams. Off Erakor Island there is nice beginner snorkelling, heaps of starfish and seahorses in the sponge beds and seagrass but stay near the shore if the tide is running out as it can move you quite quickly.

Have fun!
