Dominical versus Tamarindo

We are going to study spanish and surf in costa rica. Which of these two places would have more to do at night/restaurants etc? Which of the two would be near rainforest activities?

thanks

Dominical has the edge for rainforest activities, and, in my opinion, is much better for surfing, too. You can daytrip easily to Corcovado and Manuel Antonio National Parks.

There ARE more restaurants in Tamardino as it is much more built up than Dominical. That said, there are more than enough places to keep you happily fed for a week or two without repeating your choices. We have everything from surfer bars to gourmet restaurants in the Costa Ballena area. You will be able to see and do it all best if you rent a 4x4.

What time of year are you coming? That might make a difference.

Dominical will be very quiet in August, but there both locals and a steady trickle of travelers who come to enjoy the surf. The good news is, you get the waves all to yourself. So, it really depends on how much night time action you want and the quality of the spanish instruction. Just two sides of the same paradise. Either way you can have a great time.

All I can add is that Dominical has a popular disco at Roca Verde - saturday Nights and other bars in Dominical have various activities though the week.

Surf schools I recomend checking out:

Plus as Surfer said there are a lot of activities in the area (Costa Ballena) to keep you busy both atractions and tours. A list of some of the Tour operators in the area:
