I really appreciated the posts that I read on this site prior to traveling to Sedona (Oct 19-22). Thanks so much for taking the time to answer questions, etc.
I wanted to quickly tell about our trip. We are from the southeast so the scenery was so totally different and beautiful than anything we had ever seen. We stayed at the Sky Ranch Lodge that is up near the Airport, and I strongly recommend it. For someone who was willing to pay more, I really felt that we had a bargain in our panoramic rim views from our deck and our older, but clean, room.
We stuck mostly to hiking and enjoying the outdoors. We hiked Boynton Canyon which is near the Enchantment Resort, and Airport Mesa, which is off of Airport Road, and Bell Rock. These 3 hikes really gave us a good taste of the beautiful red rocks. My husband and I are in our early 30's and in decent shape, and we felt that even the "Easy" hike was a bit more than I'd recommend for a novice.
We ate at Heartline Cafe, Dahl and Diluca and Picazzo's Pizza for dinner. (I've posted reviews at their tripadvisor spots) Definitely get reservations at the first two. We tried the Airport Cafe for breakfast and were disappointed. We were also disappointed in Ravenheart Coffee- we wanted to eat at local spots, but ended up at the Starbucks at the Safeway on the last morning! I will say that the Safeway employees have to be the friendliest people I have ever seen in any type of retail store!
We steered away from Uptown Sedona- the traffic was insane and that kind of shopping is not really our style.
On our last morning, we drove up through Oak Creek Canyon and headed to the Grand Canyon. It was a beautiful drive with all of the Aspen trees turning gold. It was strange to not see any red leaves, though. At home, you can't beat our leaf colors, but still, Oak Creek had its own unique beauty.
We loved our stay, but we had the best time when we were off the highways and in the red rocks, walking and taking in the beauty.
