I have stayed in many of the timeshare resorts in Sedona. You can read my reviews under my profile. I have found all the resorts to be very friendly and professional. The front desk will check you in and then invite you to stop by the concierge desk for your "free gift" and to set you up with things to do. If you don't want to be bothered with the presentation pressure just don't go to the concierge desk for your "free gift." You can get your activity questions answered lots of other places. I would suggest a stop at the Tourist bureau in uptown for maps, red rock parking pass and answers to all of your questions.
There are many vacation rentals that rent for less than the month. VRBO.com is a good source. The letter of the law is only 30 day rentals, but as RedRoc said, unenforceable. Sedona really should reconsider their unrealistic position on this. Sedona is a high tourist area with visitors typically staying less than 30 days but more than the 2-3 hotel nights. Vacation rental homes will always be in high demand and the city is just losing tax $$ by not tapping that source. IMHO
Enjoy your stay wherever you end up, Sedona is a fabulous place to explore!
