Vegas or Scottsdale?

We're a group of ten guys in our mid-forties. We are trying to decide on a spot for a bachelor party. Of course Vegas came up but someone suggested Scottsdale. I have never been. What's it like for this type of event? Some of us will golf during the day, all of us like the pool but not super club like, we all like bars and meeting girls, strip clubs are possible but I think most of us are past this and would prefer to protect our wallets. Also Vegas rooms are cheaper even at end of August when we are going. Why? Guess its the gambling which none of us hate but is not required. Really we just want to chill and meet girls who will flirt and aren't stuck up and eat good food. Any thoughts?

I posted this same reply in the Vegas forum:

Really it will come down to personal preference.

Strip clubs in Scottsdale are just as good as the ones in Vegas, but much less expensive.

There are a few nice casinos in/near Scottsdale, but obviously not like Vegas. No live craps or sports gambling.

Golf will be cheaper in Scottsdale, and there is more variety.

In late August, which is when I think you're going, it will be hot in both places. It will certainly be more chill here, but the students will be coming back for school so it won't be dead.

I know this is totally outside of your original question, but have you considered Denver? Not too hot in August, generally down-to-earth people, great sports scene, if you are into sports, and I'm sure there's enough golf to keep those of you who want to play a few rounds happy. Just a thought...

I had gotten a message from a guy a few weeks ago who was planning a bachelor party out here so I helped him out with some suggestions. After his trip he wrote back to tell me they LOVED it here and were so happy they didn't do the vegas thing again. They ended up staying at Hotel Valley Ho which I think would be great for you guys too. Downtown Scottsdale has nearly 100 bars and restaurants within walking distance of each other so if you pop into one and don't like the vibe chances are there's another spot right next door you might like better. Let me know if you end up booking here and want restaurant/bar recommendations.

If you want a more laid back hotel that is close to Old Town Scottsdale you should look at the Westin Kierland (or the general area if you want cheaper rooms).

You can walk to the Kierland area to save yourselves from any drinking and driving. You can get to Old Town in about 15 minutes and get to the Talking Stick casino in about 15 minutes also.

From a golfing standpoint there are (in my opinion) a larger variety and nicer golf courses close to you in Scottsdale. When I have gone to Vegas in the past the only two golf courses very close to the strip were very over-priced and if you are going somewhere off the strip it's a good ride to get to the courses.

There are some laid back bars in Scottsdale also so you can pick/choose your location based on how loud you want it to be each night... it ranges all the way from clubs with dance music to sitting outside on a patio having quiet drinks.

As someone who lives in Scottsdale but goes to Vegas a lot I would say you'll have a much nicer and more flexible time in Scottsdale.

Agree with Worm. I think your absolute best option would be Valley Ho. You can walk back from all the bars if you can't find a cab. In addition, they have a pretty rocking bar right in the hotel. Also, please forget about any racism issues in Scottsdale...not going to happen. Go and enjoy!

Thanks for all your replies. We are actually doing both places. Weekdays golfing and light partying in Scottsdale blowout partying in Vegas that weekend. Both places were just too good. I'll post a damage assessment of the longest bachelor party ever.
