what is there to see and do in Prescott |
|
What is there to see and do.And also how far away is prescott from the Grand Cayon and Sedona |

About 130 miles, 2 ½ hours drive to the canyon. What time of year are you thinking of visiting Prescott? They have different events of interest throughout the year in the town square. There are alot of antique shops near the square to enjoy visiting. Hiking is another item that many visitors take advantage of. There are several good restaurants to enjoy a meal and have a drink or two with friends. At special times of the year there are art & craft fairs in the city square. There is a rodeo in July and I believe they have a music festival but can’t remember what time of year.

Andy's always got some great suggestions. I'd also add that Prescott has one of the best brewpubs in the state right Downtown: Prescott Brewing Company. Certainly stop there if you like beer, and they have excellent food. And if you like hiking, there are some excellent trails near to town, although it's much better in Sedona.

Don't miss Sharlot Hall. It's not a hall, or even a single building. It's named for its founder. Go to www.sharlot.org to see what kind of an exhibit they'll be having in the main building while you're there. The grounds have a collection of buildings from different periods of Az's history, including the governor's mansion.

What's there to see: bars on Whiskey Row What's there to do: drink!

A bit of history is that prescott was the first capitol of arizona. Definately worth the trip.

I'd check out The Palace Saloon on Whisky Row. It's a really neat old place and the food's good. Also, "Junior Bonner", a Steve McQueen/Sam Peckinpah movie was filmed there.

Be forewarned that the wait at Prescott Brewing Company is verrrrrrrrry long. The food is good, though. And if you're into Single Malt Scotch, they have a great sampler. If you'd like a shorter wait, St. Michael's and Gurly Street Pub are both delicious and comparable in both theme and price. Oh, and The Office is tasty...but it's off the square by a block, or so.

even if you do not stay at the Hassayampa Inn, take a walk through their lobby and have a meal in their dining room. It is a wonderful historic building within walking distance of the square. we enjoy renting boats and picnicking up at Lynx Lake, just west of Prescott. the antique stores range from knick-knacks (lots!) to lovely dated pieces of history and you can walk from place to place. Prescott is just a great small town! You might also check out the town of Jerome as well...more of the same, but smaller and a bit more eccentric.
