We are planning a big trip out west this September and we will be staying in Prescott. What is the best route from Prescott to San Diego? Should we take highway 95 that goes trough Yuma? Is it worth it? Any recommendations would be great. Thanks!

89 South from Prescott to 72 through Congress, US 60 west to I-10, US 95 south to Yuma. It's a nice drive and actually pretty easy. 95 doesn't actually go through Yuma. You're on I-8 when that happens.

Best and easiest route Colin gave you. If you want to make it a 2 days drive maybe consider to drive via Joshua Tree NP first day to Palm Desert and second day via Anza Borrego Desert SP to San Diego. Will be a detour though and too long for a one days drive.

I agree with the recommended route. We moved here (Prescott) from northern San Diego county and took that drive many times. It can be really beautiful when the monsoons or spring rains have greened up the desert. I always wanted to stop at the bakery in Yarnell, but never have. It looks pretty cool. Hiway 60 has some really decrepit old motel signs that are just classic.

We usually cut over on 10 instead of heading further south, but have taken 95 when going to San Diego proper. Nice wildlife refuge out there.

Enjoy!
