Returning to Arizona...looking for a new venue

Last year, my BF and I spent a few nights in Vegas, then flew out to PHX and drove up to Sedona for 2 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenic hikes and cute shops & restaurants. We are looking to do something similar again this year...spend a few nights in Vegas then fly out to PHX for a nice, relaxing change of scenery. We are debating returning to Sedona, or are there other areas of Arizona that we should experience. Looking for something similar in way of scenic hikes and cure shops/restaurants. thanks!

Scottsdale is beautiful and hiking Camelback is great too!

You might enjoy the Old Town and Downtown areas of Scottsdale. Shops, galleries and cafes.

One of the trails on Camelback is closed for repairs and renovations until some time in the fall. However, Scottsdale has the McDowell Sonoran Preserve with loads of trails. Piestewa Peak is also there for a climb and hike.

Most people who spend less than 3 nights in Sedona on their first visit, wind up returning for more. Have you been to the Grand Canyon? Page is another popular destination in northern AZ.

AZFan brings up a good point though. When are you coming? Weather changes drastically in northern AZ.

Thanks for the Scottsdale suggestion! We were in Sedona in June '12 - weather was perfect! We'd be coming at the beginning of June again this year. The BF would love to return to Sedona, he liked the whole "Vortex" element. I wouldn't mind returning to Sedona, but I do like to check out places we've never been, and Scottsdale sounds good to me!

Weather will be quite warm in Scottsdale in June with day time highs over 100 degrees. Not sure if that matters to you.

Look into Flagstaff. It will be even cooler than Sedona. There is plenty of hiking nearby at Snowbowl, along with the requisite cute shops and restaurants in town.

Listen to John. People who live in Scottsdale do whatever they can to escape the heat of the summer there. Those with means have second homes in higher elevations like Flagstaff and Payson. The good news for you if you choose to visit Scottsdale is the resort rates drop drastically. Smoking hot weather and deals go together.

Yes, like RedRox said June will have amazing deals at top notch resorts in the Valley. If you can take the heat, you will undoubtedly find an excellent price on luxury lodging.

Your hikes will have to be done at dawn, though. The other thing about June is it still cools down at night to the 70s, so it will be bearable once the sun goes down.
