Scottsdale Cottonwoods resorts

Any feedback on above resort, looking to go in March, the reviews are some great, some awful. Thank you! Looking to sit by pool, hike, bike, and be comfortable, but if rooms bad, not sure.

The negative reviews are fairly accurate - yes, the rooms are very dated, not exceptionally clean, and service in general ranges from "ok" to "very poor". There are much better resorts in the Scottsdale area. March is our highest season, though, especially near Old Town. That said, you might also try Firesky or Hyatt Gainey Ranch, both of which are in the same general area as Cottonwoods.

Oh, and a note re: the individual hot tubs on the casita patios - I believe a law was passed, relating to hot tub safety, and the resort is no longer allowed to use those individual hot tubs. Apparently they haven't been removed or filled in yet, though - hence the many reviews stating that the doors to the casita's back patio have been locked. It's been at least several years since that law was passed, though - seems like something could have been done to the hot tubs to allow guests use of their own patio again. That's just weird IMHO.

Depending on your budget, other resorts to try would be JW Marriott Camelback Inn - great nearby hiking and views, good service, etc. Or the Montelucia, or Sanctuary if you like a more modern hotel. Great infinity pool.

Forgot to add - also maybe try the Arizona Biltmore. They've been having some deals lately. I believe they do rent bikes, and their location is a great place to bike from. It's also close to lots of hiking in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve.

Thank you Hummingbird, great advise for more AZ naive traveler. I stayed at FireSky for conference once and want to go back, but would like to try another place.
