Should we rent a car if we are in Bariloche for 3 days?

We don't have a lot of time in this region before heading down to El Calafate so was wondering if you could provide some information on our 3 days in Bariloche. Should we rent a car for touring around or would there be enough tours available for us to experience this area. We are staying at Lirolay Suites while in Bariloche.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Well, it depends on what you want to do?

We took a lovely boat trip on two lakes with walks in the forest - no car required.

And a tour of the 7 lakes. 500kms, so was glad to leave the driving to a professional, so I could enjoy the views.

Either way would work. There are plenty of tours both on land and in the water that would fill up 3 days. These include Circuito Chico, Cerro Tronador, and Puerto Blest. The tour company would provide all transport.

But if you want to venture outside of Bariloche independently, you would definitely want a car as the distances are not small. Back in town, it's easy to walk from one end to the other.

Either way, you'll have a great time. Bariloche and the Lakes District are quite scenic.

Happy travels,

If you are comfortable with manual gears, dirt roads and our unruly driving, go for the car.

Otherwise, skipping the car rental may be the good way to go for a stress free vacation.

definitely yes. But car rental are not great and prices are higher. sometimes if you look for private cars is better and cheaper than official rental cars, in fact they are not owner operate (as Hertz , AVIS), but a third person. I suggest you do the long circuit and spend half a day on Cerro tronador.

Are there any tour companies that you would recommend using? We are planning on staying in one of thse lodges or hotels near San Carlos De Bariloche and just curious if we can just take a cab to town to book day trips or if they have to be done ahead of time. Thank you.

hi! i strongly recommend you to take the tours , and leave the option of renting a car.

you will have a guide all the way , it will be stress less , and in my opinion more cheaper.

a must; do the 7 lake tour. you wont regret that.

Are there any tour companies that we can reach out ahead of time or is this something that we can book when we get into town?
