Getting around

My wife and I planning to visit Salta and would like to explore Cafayate, Purmamarca Ticara, Uqula, Humahuaca. Is renting the car the best and most convenient way or hopping on and off of buses (were not into tour groups)?

Thanks as always for your suggestions and comments!

1. Re: Getting around

renting a car or gettign a private tour... wahtever you prefer.

Salta - Cachi

Cachi -Cafayate visiting goat farm and wineries

Cafayate - Salta.

Salta - Purmamarca visiting salt flats at sunset

Purmamarca- Uquia - Humahuaca- Tilcara - Salta... it is up to your skills at driving n winding roads.

You choose.

Warm regards.

Thanks Angie/Giena for responding, how many days would it roughly take to do your suggested circuit?

We hired a car from Hertz and it was a very easy drive with hardly any traffic, we stayed the first night in Salta after picking up the hire car in the afternoon, we drove north to Purmamarca and stayed the night there, we returned to Salta for the night then set off for Cachi in the morning, we stayed a night there before driving to Cafayate for 2 nights but could easily have stayed more nights there, then drove back to Salta.

It really is worth hiring a car we couldn't believe how spectacular the scenery is, definitely worth the trip

Five days, Hibda; six much better... but you will always feel you should have stayed longer... That happens with the NW...you may want to stay!

6. Re: Getting around

Thanks, much appreciated. Any idea of the approximate rate for a rental vehicle and the type of vehicle we should rent(it sounds like the roads in some areas are not the best).

Thanks

A regular car is enough... Get a nice medium car and you will be ok.
