Staying in BA

Hi, we'll be visiting BA mid-November for 3 nights and considering a hotel around Paseo la Plaza.

There appears to be a lot of cultural establishments around, so perhaps the area reflects the culture. Plus it looks like a reasonable walk along to the 'sights'.

Is this a safe assumption? Any thoughts/suggestions on hotels.

Many thanks, BB

I don't think so.

I could be wrong but I think Palermo, Recoleta, Barrio Norte are much better locations.

How good are you at walking ?

Look at the ArtSuites Hotel in Recoleta, the Ayers de Recoleta Plaza or Casa Sur in Recoleta.

Look at the Hotel Recoleta on Pagano.

Check out the new Dazzler in Recolate and the Urban .

I agree with Scarlett's choice of locations.

However, if you are still keen to stay in the area you identified, the Novotel is a decent choice.

If you only have three nights, I think staying in the center is a good idea. It is not as charming as Recoleta or Palermo, but in my opinion the location is much better to move around and get to know the city.

You will be walking distance from many of the places to visit (center, Retiro, Barrio Norte, San Telmo and Puerto Madero for example) and you will have three subway lines to choose from. The area itself is great during the night. I do think that Corrientes avenue (where La Plaza is located) is more interesting than most of Palermo. Of course, it might just be me!

It is also noisy and loud all day and all night. I would never live there, and I would prefer always Recoleta. But staying three nights, I think I would prefer the center.

Thanks all for your input - my instincts lean towards Estebans view. Since I've not gotten a definite 'not on your life' - I'm minded to go with my original plan.

I think your instincts are good. Corrientes is the cultural heart of the city and is full of life at all hours. As Esteban said, it is LOUD... but wonderful. And Paseo la Plaza itself is a lovely oasis.

I just got back from the city. I would definitely recommend staying in Recoleta if you only have 3 nights. Palermo Soho is worth staying in IF it's over a weekend - Saturdays are much livelier and busier than a weekday or even a Sunday when it's dead quiet and shops open 3-7pm only. Recoleta is more convenient for site-seeing - you can walk to the cemetery, El Ateneo bookstore, for example.
