Buenos Aires Stay - Legit Apartment Rental

I'm a student studying in Buenos Aires for a semester. I've traveled to a lot of foreign cities, but Buenos Aires is my favorite by far.

I'm living in a homestay arranged by my study abroad program, but I thought it might be helpful sharing my experience with renting an apartment for my mom and sister when they visited, especially because I didn't find all that much stuff when I was looking for information about what companies are legitimate. I looked at a lot of different apartments and companies on Craigslist and ended up choosing bastay.com. I was nervous because I hadn't found much about them online and I knew that things like this are not guaranteed. I definitely lucked out, though.

For a small fee, Buenos Aires Stay picked up my mom and sister from the airport and took them to the apartment. I was glad that we did this, given that neither of them speak Spanish and some of the taxis at the airport are not safe.

We rented this apartment, at Malabia and Guemes: www.buenosairesstay.com/bastay/vermas.php… It helped that I have been here for awhile and know some about the layout of the city, but we were very happy with the location: 3 blocks away from the Subte, and walking distance from tons of bars, restaurants, and fantastic shops.

The apartment was nice and clean, with a kitchen and a large living/dining room, which was really nice for when we did not feel like going out to dinner. My family was really glad to have the extra space: my mom is an early riser and my sister is definitely not, so my mom would putter around in the kitchen and living room while my sister stayed asleep in the bedroom.

I would absolutely recommend BAStay if you are going to be staying in Buenos Aires. Most of the hotels in Buenos Aires are in the center of town, and we found ourselves spending most of our time in Palermo which could have meant a 15 minute taxi ride every night for dinner. Also, the price we paid for two weeks would have covered only a few nights at a nice hotel. The staff at Buenos Aires Stay were on the whole very professional and easy to work with, and we got our deposit back without problems. I was very happy with my experience and I'm booking another apartment with them for when my dad comes in another two weeks.

Oops!

Here's the link:

www.buenosairesstay.com/bastay/vermas.php…

As well as to the main website:

http://www.buenosairesstay.com/

Also, I forgot to mention, that they hooked us up with a cell phone rental as well. The rental itself was free, we just had to pay for the minutes we used. This was super helpful in trying to meet up with them in such a gigantic city.

You may just be a might cynical here: I read Alison's Blog and she is clearly who she portrays herself to be. Her post was not effusive, but a review of her (and her mother's) experience renting in BsAs. I thank her for it.

I also read Samantha's blog - fun to read of her experiences! I'm also glad she posted.

We do tend to get cynical - often posts are just ads, but she's who she says she is!

Hold my hands up!! I saw that someone else questioned her posting to all forums and was directed to her blog. But you must concur, it is so hard to make up your mind when there are so many companies and so much bad stuff all over the internet and half the stuff here is written by the same people. However, I had a good snoop at buenosairesstay, the website is up and running since 2005, so they have been around for a while and they are Brits, they have good reviews all over the place. I found out that they are owned by a security company from various links and ICANN info' to Linked In (strange), in the UK and the owner is listed as sitting on many other Ltd and PLC company boards!

Sorry, I am inquisitive for a living. I am a debt collector.

On Monday, I will give these guys a blast, the owner is a well respected UK businessman so that is a good start! I am well and truly 'smacked' - OUCH!

I have seen an apartment on the website of Buenos Aires Stay:

www.buenosairesstay.com/bastay/vermas.php…

I am in a hotel at the moment in Recoleta - I was in Palermo yesterday and love the vibe, Recoleta makes me feel my age for some reason. The apartment is on Charcas, anyone know this part of Palermo, what's it like?

Thank you in advance.

bambam: That's actually a pretty fantastic location, in my opinion. It's like, a block away from Santa Fe, where you can usually find all of your basic needs (pharmacies, grocery stores, really cheap empanada places) but also easily walking distance from Palermo Hollywood, which is a fantastic neighborhood for eating and window shopping and going to bars. It's like 5-6 blocks away from a huge conglomeration of restaurants I have marked that I want to try. Also, DANG that looks like a nice apartment. If you end up there, I definitely suggest having lunch sometime at Oui Oui, a little cafe at the corner of Nicaragua and Dorrego.

I'm glad y'all enjoyed the blog. Sometimes I feel like the only person who reads it is my grandma, but I know it will be nice to have as a record of my time here after I have to leave in another few months.

Sam, I never blog and use the internet for research all day long, we have a department in our company that manages my IT and I am very new to forums. I found TA by chance when looking for an apartment and had read widely all over the place for the past two days until crazy - I saw all your posts and thought it strange! So sorry to doubt you! I read your blog and liked it very much. Glad that your folks and friends are following you to BA, that makes being in a strange city fun and on those down days when study is a pig, it is something to look forward to. Your blog has inspired me to write a little more about my experiences as it really does help people make some choices when content is both honest and not just marketing. I am taking your recommendation and will contact your apartment rental company choice on Monday and report back here after my trip. Apart from the dangerous driving I have seen on the roads, I have been impressed by BA as a city and very taken aback by the thriving culture and quality of both food and people I have met. The people here as you state in your blog seem very welcoming and I have met some real characters in just a few days. Keep up the good blogging and best wishes, Brian
