 Prune

I came to BA with such high hopes about finding the perfect bag and shoes at Prune...but was slightly disappointed. If you live in a metropolitan city like New York with easy access to nice shopping (and enjoy pieces that are not generic in design) then Prune will most likely disappoint you too. Don't get me wrong, the leather & construction is still superior to the NYC street vendors but still - take the time to hit up Palermo Viejo and surrounding area for something truly unique.

Prune to me was like, I dunno....Aldo? Okay, but pretty mainstream. If that's what you are into - then alright. I just wanted more, I guess.

I did find an interesting bag in a store in the Gallerias Pacificas. Don't remember the name but it did not appear to be a chain store.

I agree with you. Prune is very mainstream. It is also a good bang for the buck kind of place. The designer shops in Palermo Soho are more expensive and more distinctive.

It is much the same with leather jackets. Murrillo street offers mainstream jackets at good prices. Soho offers designer jackets and better quality leather at higher prices.

On our last trip my wife bought a bag at prune and an amazing jacket in Soho.

Thanks for helping to make this distinction clear.

Le giblet, I agree with you. I am able top find similar in the US or Canada for similar prices or better. We wanted to check out Murillo St. & ended up spending 3 hrs going from store to store, leaving with a feeling that we could have spent our quality time elsewhere.

Prune in Palermo Viejo or at the Mall?

Galleries Paficico, Patio Bullrich, Alto Palermo and Paseo Alcorte all have almost exactly the same stores...local chains. It can be difficult here to find something not sold in a mall or something a bit unique..

Coming from NYC ourselves...we did find the leather here superior to any Canal St/street vendor in Manhattan but then, it isn't made in China :)

Did you look at Silk? in Palermo Viejo also but also in the malls..

Today we were in Ralph Lauren...even if you are not interested in that sort of thing..go to see the interiors of the building and the stained glass skylight..even the antique prints on the walls :)

Worth a stop .. on Ave Alvear..

Wait a minute....is no one going to comment on the legs on the girl in the psoter in the window?

Let's get serious...those are the longest legs in the known world! Standing outside and looking might be better than going inside!

You could try Skin , Lazaro ,and Bigati .Lazaro is on Santa Fe street.

Carla Danelli in Palermo has good options.

Tienda Porteña in San Telmo has beautiful leather bags but more expensive than Prune.Carla Danelli also has a shop in San Telmo Carlos Calvo between Defensa and Balcarce.

yes, I agree. Prune is ok, but it doesn't make me crazy. there are much more better places to buy nice leather bags. Maria Cher in Patio Bullrich has some really nice ones and Uma and Mishka in Palermo. And then there is a place on the gallery at the Alvear (promenade) that has very nice leather bags too. Really, there are so many places...

Just got back from BA today, and I have to agreee that I was underwhelmed with the choices at Prune - or anywhere I "shopped" for a new purse - though I recieved compliments on my La Marthe purse that I had bought at Marshalls. I was asked "did you get that here?"

Maybe my expectations were too high - but both my sister & I thought we could find similar or better quality shopping at TJ Maxx or Marshalls.

The biggest disappointment though was seeing a woman in the Atlanta airport this morning - with a Prune Outlet shopping bag!!

Anyone know where it is?

Main difference is: Prune is ok but mainstream. The designer shops in Palermo Soho and San Telmo are more distinctive but the prices are much more expensive. Alvear Av.: fined shops / very expensive prices.

If you want to spend $70 on a bag you could find good options in prune but no one thing in distinctive shops in palermo Soho.
