Base in The Winelands - Stellenbosch?

Looking at spending 3 nights in the winelands in Feb and was wondering if Stellenbosch is THE place to stay as a base to visit the outlaying areas? Wine tasting, chilling with a few walks is definitley on the menu!

We'd like a inexpensive - up to $100 - per night for 2 sharing in a nice B&B with a pool. Want to be near great places to eat - walking distance but safe.

Anybody have any ideas or should we be looking else where?

Stellenbosch would not be a bad base if you want to be able to walk to restaurants however you may want to consider Franschhoek, a smaller town in a more beautiful setting. Very good restaurants there too.

Have a look at the link below too for links to maps / wine routes. Sometimes the best places to stay are on the wine estates themselves. There are reliable cabs that can be used to get to restaurants.

and try and use websites like safarinow.com and capestay.co.za for good selection of places to stay

I recommend the Bellevue Manor, in the valley between Stellenbosch & Somerset West. Distances here are so short, that it would serve all the criteria you mentioned.

Nice B&Bs in Franschhoek are:

Agincourt Guest House: http://www.agincourtguesthouse.co.za/

Klein Oliphants Hoek:

Cathbert Country Inn:

All have a pool and should be in your price range :)
