which Ostrich farm ?

Hi friends We will be arriving from Cape Town by route 62 at around 1 pm in early October [ ? 5 hours driving from Cape Town ] . Will have the afternoon and the next morning free . Want to see the Cango Wildlife Ranch , any one reasonably priced Ostrich Farm and the Cango caves before leaving for Knysna the next day . How should we best time our points of interest ? Which would be the cheapest Ostrich farm giving a fair deal ? thanks and warm regards to all of you .

Hi dranujkiran

I would suggest that you stay at least 2 nights in Oudtshoorn, if you have the time. There are just too many things to do and see! To answer your question about the Ostrich Farm: I would strongly suggest Highgate Ostrich Farm (http://www.highgate.co.za/)

If you decide to stay only the one night, then I would suggest visiting Highgate in the afternoon after your arrival in Oudtshoorn. Visit the Cango Caves early the next morning (http://www.cango-caves.co.za) and then Cango Wildlife Ranch (http://www.cango.co.za) on your way back to town. Then you can leave for Knysna, which is about 2 - 2½ hours drive).

If you decide to stay for 2 nights: here is a suggested itenary:

Day 1: Visit Highgate in the afternoon after your arrival in Oudtshoorn.

Day 2 in Oudtshoorn: Take the R328 that end at the Cango Caves. After the tour at the Caves, travel back to town - there are many places to visit on the way back (in this order):

Wilgewandel Holiday Farm, where you can experience a camel ride.

Rust and Vrede Waterfall, at the turn off to the Cango Mountain Resort.

Cango Ostrich farm, (If you haven't visited one of the other Ostrich farms on the other side of town: Safari and Highgate).

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge where you can enjoy a drink or lunch on the deck overlooking a dam where you might see hippos, elephants or other wildlife. You can even go on a bush safari.

Cango Wildlife Ranch, just before you enter Oudthoorn, where you can experience Crocodile cage diving. Many other wildlife including White Bengal tigers and cheetahs.

In town you can visit the CP Nel Museum, and just walk around in town and admire the beautiful architecture of all the "ostrich palaces" and other historical buildings. (Most museums and businesses close at 16:00/17:00).

Day 3:

Drive to Prince Albert via the Swartbergpas (www.patourism.co.za/swartberg%20pass.htm) and take the Meiringspoort route (http://www.patourism.co.za/meiringspoort.htm) back to Oudtshoorn. There is also a waterfall along the road in Meiringspoort which is worth visiting.

Continue to Knysna

www.oudtshoorninfo.com is a GREAT website to visit for information about Oudtshoorn and surrounds.

Enjoy your time in the Karoo and Garden Route and have a safe trip!

Warm regards
