Can anyone recommend a great spot to to have lunch at along the route from Cape Town to Knysna .
Outdshoorn. Some really lovely restaurants in old Cape Dutch houses!
Cape Town to Knysna is nearly 500 Kilometres, by the fastest route ( driving, that is).
While Oudtshoorn is very nice, historical, and has good restaurants, Oudtshoorn is not on the direct route, but will require somewhat of a detour.
In fact, Cape Town to Oudtshoorn is around 490 Km. nearly the same as C T to Knysna, and certainly not at the half way "lunchtime distance".
From Oudtshoorn to Knysna is another 120 Km. requiring a "back track" of about 80 Km
A more logical lunch stop, to my mind, on the most direct route, would be Swellendam which is 225 Km from Cape Town, roughly half way, on the fastest route.
Swellendam is the third oldest town in the Republic of South Africa.
The town has over 50 provincial heritage sites most of them buildings of Cape Dutch architecture.
Enjoy the drive, and enjoy your lunch, wherever you decide to eat.
Another vote for Swellendam ( if you are travelling via N2 ). Several good places to eat there. It is roughly the halfway point on that route. Otherwise keep an eye out for farmstalls along the way. They make good rest stops to browse and usually have a good menu for a lunch.
