Good neighborhood for American couple renting for Feb-March?

We love Cape Town's beauty and vitality. We want to rent an apartment/flat/small house for February/March 2014. We'd like a neighborhood that is pleasant and attractive, where we can get downtown by bus/taxi, that is reasonably safe (unless walking alone at night), and has a nice mix of people. (Access to beach or parks would be a bonus!) We'll also be using a car for day trips. We've heard that Green Point or Sea Point might fit us? We'd be grateful for suggestions and insights! Thanks very much. Peter and Susan Brink, Norwich, Vermont, USA

Hi Peter

Green Point or Sea Point, Mouille Point, De Waterkant, Bantry Bay are all lovely places. You may even look at the VA Waterfront but it's very commercial. If you want reasonably priced accommodation then Green Point or Sea Point, Mouille Point are your choice. My daughter stays in Mouille Point and we just love the long walks on the promenade. You have the same promenade at Sea Point. Sea Point have a real mix of accommodation from real cheap to expensive. The main road through SP is busy. The Beach Road is also busy but here you get more expensive accommodation. All worth it. If the price is to cheap I would not recommend the place.

Bantry Bay is relatively wind free.

Camps Bay is lovely but further away from the CBD. It's got all the restaurants, the beach and bling.

I can also recommend Bantry Bay, Sea Point and then also Green Point. Fro more options for choices for people that can assist, have a look at www.stayincapetown.co.za . They have self catering serviced apartments in Green Point, Sea Point and also the City Center.

Try Sunflower Stop - they are a backpacker but might be able to assist. You can check out the website on www.sunflowerstop.co.za

Thanks to everyone who responded. We followed up by looking at all the neighborhoods recommended. For our particular needs we finally focused on Tamboerskloop - and have rented a small apartment there for the month of March. Regards, Peter
