Hi my husband and I will be in Johannesburg for 4 nights in November 2013 and wondered what areas/suburbs we should look for accommodation in. We are looking at either B&B or maybe something with a microwave/stove for self catering. Any advice would be appreciated. Is the Moonflower Cottages in Victoria Park a safe area? Also if self catering would need to walk to get groceries. thanks
Rosebank, Parkview, Parktown North, Parkhurst are all "safe" areas.
I would say that, in general, taking the same precautions one would take in one's own city, Johannesburg is as safe as any big city anywhere.
I have no knowledge of a "Victoria Park" in Johannesburg. Perhaps you mean Victory Park?

Rosebank is nice and central, with a good selection of shops and restaurants.
