St Francis Bay v Port Elizabeth

My Husband and I are driving along the Garden Route in March starting in Cape Town and ending up in Port Elizabeth before flying to do a safari in Kruger. We are staying in Knysna and Storms River Mouth and we then have two more nights before we need to catch an early flight from Port Elizabeth (at 8am).

Would you suggest a night in St Francis Bay and then the final night in Port Elizabeth, or 2 nights in St Francis Bay and then driving straight to the airport in the morning, or something else entirely?!

Also, how long would it take to drive to PE airport from St Francis Bay and do you have any recommendations for where to stay in either place?

Thank you in advance for all your advice!

Kate

In that area I would strongly recommend staying in Plettenberg bay or Knysna or Jeffries Bay then definitely the last night in Port Elizabeth if you have an early flight.

It is about an hour and a half from St Francis, which means leaving St Francis at about 5.30am. Ouch!

The problem is that rush hour start just at 7.00am in Port Elizabeth, so if you are delayed in any way, you will hit rush hour traffic and be delayed even further. The N2 and M4 gets very busy, especially trying to turn off the N2 onto the M4.

Stay in Port Elizabeth the night before your flight, at least you might have time for breakfast. Have a drink the night before at Barneys.
