slow boat from Chau Doc to PP included in Mekong Delta tour,

We have booked a 3dy/2nt tour from HCMC with Open Tour(it is virtually the same trip as Sinhs tour with an upgrade)

The basic tour includes poor hotels and slow boat. We have upgraded hotels and to the fast boat.

Done lots of research, paid $24 for boat so presume its with Hang Chau company, looked at the boat etc seems OK.

But we have the option not to pay the $24 and go by slow boat which also includes a trip beforehand to a village. The boat is described as wooden?

Very confident we've made the right choice to upgrade to fast but can't find any info on the slower boat.

Just wondered if anyones done it and what was it like?

thanks (currently sheltering from the rain in Hoi An!!!!)

4. Re: slow boat from Chau Doc to PP included in Mekong Delta tour,

You will have well gone by now, but for anyone still wanting to know about this...

.Yes there is a slow boat & its a wonderful trip! $10 & 3 hrs to the border...I did the return trip, 2 days ago...

You stop at a fish farm, & a Cham village, in the first half hour....then follow the Mekong for around another half hour, before veering off into a small canal, which brings you out, right on the border...

Meandering past tiny villages...seeing life on the river which isnt touristy, just simple folks going about their daily business...amazing!

Yes...it is a wooden boat, but very sturdy, & fully supplied with life jackets..

However, once in the canal, it is only about a metre or so to each bank, & judging from the water buffalo wallowing in the centre, the water wouldnt even be over your head...

I sat with my feet over the side, dragging in the water, smiling at waving kids (& excited adults...lol) & felt so relaxed II went to sleep on the way back...

There is a personal guide on board, who guides people through the intricacies of the border crossing, & our guide Salex (sp?) was very professional but also warm & friendly!

A highly recommended trip!
