We are arriving on a cruise ship on a Monday.

We are a group of 5 ...one 7 month old and one mobile handicapped lady.

We want to see Ketchikan. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

How about the lumberjack show? Saxmon or Totem Bight for totem poles? Creek Street is nice for walking or shopping. There is a walking tour that you can get info and a brochure on at the visitor center right at the cruise dock.

Check ketchikanarts.org to see if there are any events going on the day you will be there.

You can get to Misty Fjords by boat - at least two vendors go there (Allen Marine and Alaska Travel Adventures).

I would have breakfast on the ship, walk a block to the Discovery Center- watch the film and see the exhibits- many of which charm the children of Ketchikan and there is lots of room to crawl, etc- walk another block to the library/museum to see the small exhibit, visit the bathroom (changing table is in the children's library, also toys and play area) then pick up the bus outside the library and go out to Totem Bight. Library or museum staff can tell you when the bus comes...I think it's 54 minutes after the hour, but I could be wrong. The beauty of that trip north is that you are seated, you'll see a lot of the island, it's only $1 per person, and you can get off at the park which features a nice gift shop, plenty of places to sit, a gorgeous beach and short nature walk. Your senior can drink coffee and enjoy the gift shop while you walk the baby around, or you all can enjoy the wide, flat trail to the totems. Take the bus back to town, have a late lunch at the outdoor Halibut Hole on the creek or indoor Diaz (very family friendly and spotless) on Stedman St. Return to ship.
