reservations, reservations !!!

Just an FYI for those planning to visit. If you want to try local restaurants, reservations are generally a must. These are tending to be small restaurants and fill up quickly.

Not really. We dine often at the Homestead and never have reservations. Perhaps at Captain Patties, but often we find it not that crowded. Depends on what day and time of day.

I know that at the more visible eateries in places like Anchorage, Fairbanks and along the Denali Park corridor, reservations can be useful. When you get to regions as remote as here, however - even though we are along the standard tourist loop - such a concept merits guffaws.

Some places in our area don't take reservations unless you are a party of 6 or larger - depends on the place. So sometimes you can, sometimes you can't and have to wait like everyone else. :)

The only place we've found where you need reservations is the Glacier Brew House in Anchorage. We've been dissapointed several times with a very long wait. It doesn't seem to matter if it's summer or winter they are always crowded. Moose Tooth Pizza, get there early to avoid a long wait. Fat Olives in Homer, we had to wait quite a while to get a table for a party of 8, which is understandable, Captain Patty's we got in after a short wait with the same amount of people. Ray's Waterfront and Chinooks no problem without reservations. Double Musky in Girdwood, get there at least 45 minutes before they open to get a table or expect to wait, they don't take reservations unfortunately.

Since this is posted in the Homer forum & references small restaurants, it appears PaKevin is talking about getting in to Homer restaurants.

PaKevin, did you get to eat at my favorite, Cafe Cups?!

This is strictly regarding Homer. Went to eat a cafe cups, they let us stand at the door for 10 min then told us that we needed to have reservations. Went to Two Sisters Bakery, we were seated immediately, excellent service and food. Have been to Mercaid Cafe, loved it and plan to go back before leaving Homer. Lot of places already closed for season. We did eat at Captain Patties and did make reservations after visit to Cafe Cups. The waitress at the bakery told us that most of the smaller restaurants will take reservations due to limited seating.

Just posted so that anyone who visits Homer and wants to eat at these highly recommended places will know to just go ahead and make reservations so that you will be able to experience each place.

Cafe Cups seems to be that way, sort of disoraganized. We only go there once in a while. The Homestead is our closest

If you want to eat at at Capt. Patties, make reservations. Two Sisters and Mermaid Cafe are excellent places to eat.

In Homer for 6 nights; Cosmic Kitchen - breakfast; Mermaid Cafe - lunch and dinner; Two Sisters - Dinner; breakfast x2; Capt Patties - dinner. AJ Steak house - dinner. Alices - dinner - burger.

Mermaid was our favorite. Wish we could get them here. Two Sisters was excellent as well for dinner. We had granola with fruit and yogurt for breakfast there.

We were there Sept 15-21. Several places all ready closed for season
