Have airfare--need accommodations!

We, a family of three, will be visiting Rarotonga this summer. We need budget accommodations for six nights when we first arrive. Then we will go to Akituiti (sp) for five nights (I reserved the Paradise Cove Lodge). After that, we will have two more nights on Rarotonga before we fly home to USA. We like smaller lodges with great people, scenery and safety and, most importantly, we have a budget of $100 usd a night for this trip. Muri Beach looks beautiful. Is there anywhere is this area that would meet our criteria? Should we stay on that side of the island for six nights and then up by the airport for the last two nights? Suggestions wanted please :) We'll probably take the buss around the island--unless this isn't recommended. THANKS so much for ALL recs!!!

Kia Orana feeling beachy, welcome to the forum.

From your posting about Aitutaki, I see you have plans for an August visit. Being part of the peak season for tourism, you may find a lot of choices have been already booked unfortunately.

But try accommodation in Muri including Shell Bungalows and Muri Heights Villas within your price-range.

For a 2 night stay after Aitutaki, rental homes in the Nikao area include Nikao Cottages which has 3 houses on the inland side of the main road with direct access to the beachfront via their private beach sections. There may be a minimum night-stay however, being usual for a number of rental properties nowadays.

You may be best to negotiate a Rarotonga stay that includes a side trip to Aitutaki in between.

Happy trip planning - kia manuia.
