Rarotonga in September

we are staying at the Pacific Resort in Rarotonga in September for 8 nights. Can anyone suggest some nice restaurants within walking distance or any other restaurants that we can get a taxi to.

Also is there drink driving laws in the Cook Islands as we thought we might hire a car to travel around the island and maybe have a cocktail or two on our journey but not quite sure of the drink driving laws so thought I would ask the question.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kia Orana Billiepowell, welcome to the forum.

You wont require a taxi to visit any number of nice restaurants round Muri. They are all within walking distance in this popular village.

Beachfront dining at the Pacific Resort is a good place to start, as well as their bistro located at the resort entrance. Either side of the resort you'll find Silver Sands at Muri Beach-Club Hotel, and Sails restaurant at the Sailing Club. Other dining places within the immediate area include Te Vara Nui cultural village, the Rickshaw and Flame-tree restaurant.

The Cook Islands has drink-driving laws. Remain within your individual limit that you observe at home and you should be fine.

All the best for your holiday. Kia manuia.

Hi Billie

getting a car to go around the Island is a great idea. We usually do the same, but when we go out for dinner we catch a bus (clockwise or anticlockwise) and get a taxi for return trip, just to be on the safe side. In our six visits to Rarotonga we were only stopped once but you don't want to risk it.

Make sure you go to The Mooring and Flying Boat for very affordable lunch. Le Bon Vivant and Wind Jammer are serving very good food, bit pricier. Would also recommend a visit to Shipwreck Hut (at Aro'a Beachside Inn)for a coctail and sunset views.

Have a great time.
