lunch at or near the airport

We will have a few hours of layover at the airport before an international flight. Is there a good place for lunch at the airport? Would it pay to take a taxi off the airport grounds? We will have access to the business class lounge (TACO).

The business class lounge isn't much so don't expect a lot.

If you have the time, you can take a taxi to the center of Alajuela (this is where the airport is located) for a meal or to walk around and do some shopping or banking. It's about 10-15 minutes from the airport to the center of town.

I wouldn't buy any food at the airport unless you go outside and get something at Malinche which is at the very end of the terminal. It's reasonable, a lot of typical Costa Rican food and you can sit outside and do some "people watching."

But I think that going into Alajuela would be the best choice.

Thanks.

How long is the walk to Malinche? Is i obvious how to find it? Is there a particular restaurant you reccomend in town? What do you guess the taxi should cost? Is it easy to get a taxi back?

1. The walk to Malinche is about 3 minutes. When you exit the terminal, turn right and walk down the sidewalk. You will see the chairs and tables.

2. In Alajuela, there are several really good restaurants. A lot of people like Jalapenos but it's TexMex so maybe not what you came to Costa Rica to find! Check Trip Advisor reviews here tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g309224-Alajuela…

3. The taxi should cost no more than 3,000 colones or around $6. Maybe less, depending on where you go.

4. It is easy to get a taxi back. Ask the restaurant to call one for you - or - just go outside and flag one down. Licensed taxis are red with a yellow triangle on the door.
