Volcano and Casino Beach Resort

We will be in San Jose from Aug 22-29. Group is composed of husband and wife, 14-yr old daughter and a friend of the hubby's.

For the weekend, we are planning to visit Arenal and the hot springs on a Saturday and on the Sunday, we'd like to visit a casino beach resort. Can you please provide me with suggestions? We are planning on staying at Boutique Hotel Jade, and we probably won't be renting a car, so we will need to consider the transportation to the casino beach resort too. I know there are lots of all-inclusive tours to the Arenal so I will appreciate suggestions there too.

Right now, we aren't planning to stay overnight in any of those locations, but if it makes more sense, then please let me know. Thanks in advance for your assistance!

If for some reason you must stay in San Jose, you have chosen a hotel that gets pretty decent reviews, but if possible you should try to get out of the city for more than a weekend. Arenal will make for a very long and tiring day trip. I would recommend at least two nights there to make it worth your while. You could do a day trip to a beach (also a long day but doable) but you will not find any ”casino beach resorts” along the lines of what I think you are envisioning….at least not one that will allow you to use their facilities for an afternoon. In fact, casinos in general in Costa Rica are probably not what you are used to, and most are in the San Jose area.

If you only have 1 weekend out of the city I would suggest you go to Arenal on the Friday, stay two nights and explore the area, returning Sunday. Even that will not do it justice. If day trips are your only option, just check out the central valley – lots to see and do there as well.

I agree with CanaTico. It's a 3 hour drive to Arenal so it makes a horrendously long day if you take a one-day tour there. Thta's just road time not counting however long it will take the tour bus to pick up passengers from multiple hotels if you are on an organized excursion.

Most one day tours to Arenal are just horrible...not worth it...stay overnight...if you can!

If you must stay at a beach oriented casino hotel (and the rooms, facilities and restaurants are quite nice, perhaps an overnite?) I would recommend The Hotel Cocal and Casino in Jaco. http://hotelcocalandcasino.com/

They will allow you to use all facilities if you visit the tables, and as to transport, if you contact them directly they will send a shuttle to pick you up...there will be a cost, but that depends on your plans.

Have a great holiday the way you want it.

Be aware thet there are many prostitutes at the Hotel Cocal and Casino, and the casino is quirte small. Not suitanble for a 14 year old girl.

Canatico, I think the management of the hotel and casino would take offense to your remark. What you describe is legal in the country, and where you find casinos (hey..Las Vegas is a good example) you are bound to run into entertainment. The hotel is highly rated in Jaco, decent restaurant, and I doubt that the travelers were planning on bringing their 14 yr old to the casino in the first place.
