Safest part of San Jose??

We'll be H'mooning next July (2006). I've been reading about certain parts of SJ that may not be that safe. Any suggestions on 3,4,or 5 star hotels in the safer areas of SJ? Specific calles & avenidas would be great! Thanks!

Take a taxi anywhere at night ( do not walk the streets at night) and avoid the crowded downtown areas like the Central Market where pickpockets gather. The park in front of the Holiday Inn is a crime zone at night.

Like any big city SJ has some areas that should be avoided so not be walked at night alone The best area I would recomend you to stay at the Inter Contineltal Hotel is located in front of Multi Plaza Mall near Escazu about 20 minutes from the airport and $14 Taxi ride or if you are renting a car the directions in Tico language : from El Parque La Sabana in SJ go west toward Escazu go pass the Escazu exit pay a toll of 75 Colones and continue on that road till you'll see a sing that says Multi Plaza exit there the Hotel is on the right before the entrance to the MultiPlaza mall.

The Hampton Inn five minutes from the airport is excellent. Much nicer than the Hampton Inns in the states. (same chain; Hilton honors Club)

been to costa rica 2 times in last 6 months, and stayed

at intercontinel hotel ,,while in sj ,very clean and safe hotel

both times had no problem, pool is very clean and nice ,

if you book on 5th floor you get a key that will only let

people who stay on that floor get on through elavator!

with out card elvator will not let you on that floor, also

they have a area on floor with a bar for happy hour and

breakfast in the morning ,and bloody marys, request a room

with a pool view ,also across the street is a nice high end

mall (not cheap)but nice to walk through and window shop ,

if take cab down town about 10.00 -12.00 u.s dollars

Why stay in San Jose in the first place? Terrible place to spend a honeymoon.
