Hello,

This is a great forum. Lot of useful information.

We will be there next week staying in Escazu. A few questions:

We are not planning on renting a car, will be able to go shopping for breakfast items, pasta etc in the escazu area? We are traveling with kids and are staying in a place with kitchennete

Any suggestions for daytrips? We are looking at arenal and la paz

Can we do the SJ downtown trip on our own?

Thanks

Hi Gilligan,

Escazu is pretty spread out and divided into several parts. The accessability to areas and what will be convenient for you depends on where you are staying.

There are plenty of supermarkets. For example in the Multiplaza a large shopping mall, there is the Automercado. In another area there is a Mas x menos supermarket. Also lots of smaller local stores....

Cabs are reasonable. You will definitely find everything you need. Want bagels? There is a Bagelmans. Want Pita and other Middle Eastern stuff - Pita Rica...Want egg Mcmuffins - there are several McDonalds....

You can easily either hop on the local bus or take a cab and visit San Jose. Its about 20 minutes away.

If you let us know where you are staying, someone here will possibly be able to be more specific on what is close to it.

With kids you might want to go to zoo ave in Alajuela. There is a Butterfly farm in La Guacima. Go to Arenal, depending on how old your kids are you might try a river float trip.
