Cano Island |
Has anyone gone out to Cano Island? We will be at Bosque del Cabo over Christmas and I am wondering if we should go out to Cano Island. |
Do a search in the main Costa Rica forum and you will see a number of responses to this question. We went diving and snorkelling here...although the visibility was not Caribbean clear, we saw lots and lots of fish life. The beach is beautiful but not any more so than many other beaches on the Osa Peninsula.

There is no trip to Cano Island from BdC. You could charter a private plane to go over there but Bosque is quite a bit further south on the Osa. Their web site has a list of options. We always enjoy going out with Escondido Trex. Have heard that the snorkeling isn't all that great in the Gulf. The horseback riding trip is always well reviewed. Have talked to people who have had good luck swimming with the dolphins. We kayaked with the dolphins as they followed the Croc Bay fishing boats in to shore. High tide was around 2 pm on that day and the boats start to come in around 3-3:30 pm. We were having our snack on the beach when we saw the boats and dolphins coming in so we hopped in our kayaks and headed out. There were also turtles swimming around as well. Casa Orquideas is an interesting trip but very expensive when you factor in the taxi to town and the high cost of the boat to get across the gulf to their place. If you are really into adventure you can do the waterfall rapelling next door. Fishing is pretty good. I caught a wahoo down there, hubby caught tuna on one trip. We caught 3 sail another day. The wahoo is my favorite catch so far. It took the line so hard that the boat captain thought I had a marlin. I was ready to hand the pole over to my husband. Glad I didn't. It was a lot of fun to bring in. Haven't done the boat tour yet but it sounds interesting. Do get out with Philip and Eduardo while there. It is a lovely place. Have fun!
