Crossing the Rio Bongo

We will be in Montezuma at the end of March and will be driving to Samara afterwards. On our drive last year from Montezuma to Samara we took the safe route going through Paquera and Naranjo and so forth. That drive was fine but we would really like to try the more adventurous scenic route this time crossing the rivers along the Pacific side. After reading the pros and cons of doing this and seeing Youtube videos of people crossing the Rio Bongo I have a couple questions. How does one know where on the other side to cross to? Once to the other side will it lead to the main road or path again?

Read this thread tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g309278-i7374-k538…

I think that's the river you're talking about, it's east of Manzinillo (which is north of Santa Teresa) and then north.

Comment 5 has a YouTube video that shows how they crossed.

Comment 16 is from me and has a link to my photos.

While it looks like the same river (I believe it is), the gravel on the side that they drive on is clearly NOT in my photos (I'm heading north to Samara and needed to cross after leaving Manzinillo). It was April and I don't remember it being particularly rainy the day or two before. I have no idea about tides and rivers. We spent the night and went out in the morning via Paquera/Naranjo.
