Arriving from Liberia- travel time

We land in LIR at 12PM, get rental car and hope to be on the road by 1PM, factoring 4.5 hr drive SHOULD put us in Montezuma about 530 if we make the 3PM ferry.

LIR-Puntarenas 1PM- 245PM

Ferry over 3PM-430Pm

drive to Montezuma 430PM- 530PM

Is this reasonable?

From Liberia to Puntarenas is a little more than 1 hour and 45 minutes. It's more like 3-3.5 hours. So unlikely you will make the 3 pm ferry.

Thank you. Would it be better if it hasnt been to rainy to just drive and avoid the ferry? I need to make reservations in Montezuma, but dont want to if getting there is not reasonable. We are planning on going onto MA area for a few days and end with a couple of days in Playa Coco or close.

If you arrive in LIR...better to drive all the way down...you will be by Montezuma at 6PM...leaving at 1Pm from LIR...in this way you will avoid the ferry...no ferry...just dusty and bumpy road...

Agree with Roadadvisor, no need to take the ferry. You can drive straight down the peninsula. You will need a sturdy 4x4 and be prepared for a slow journey south of Nicoya.

Thanks for the help! I have decided to just have a leisurely drive to Puntarenas, stay at Mikes Beachside Hotel, enjoy the sunset over the bay, dinner, drinks and head to Montezuma the next day. This is vacation, no need to be rushed. We will spend 2 nights in Montezuma, then head to MA, 2 nights, really just want to show wife the park and have her enjoy Jaco Taco, one of my fav places. After MA, we have 3 nights left, just going to leave open until we get there, then figure it out. Likely somewhere back near Liberia, but heard Tamarindo is not the same as it was when there in 2003, too built up. Looking for quiet lazy beach town.
