Need advise on a 2 week wedding/adventure trip in January.

This is our first trip out of the US. ..afraid to stay away from super tourist areas but that's exactly what we want. We want to experience local culture, plant life and animals. We would love to stay in hostels or with a local family for most of our trip and then somewhere special to get married. We don't care about night life...would rather meet up with other adventure seekers for fun.

You probably would be best served to start with a travel guidebook to get an idea of the range of options available. Highly recommend the Key Guide to Costa Rica which has some great suggestions for experiencing local culture and trying spots slightly off the beaten trail. You should also seriously consider spending time on the Osa peninsula so that you can visit Corcovado National Park with its spectacular setting. Good luck planning!
