Which CR Pacific coast spots to favour?

I am going to CR soon with a friend and we are organizing our own itinary. After spending several days around Arenal and Monteverde and before going to Tortuguero, we are debating whether we should go to Manuel Antonio park for a couple of days or another area like the gulf/ peninsula de Nicoya, or ...? We don't necessarily want to go to over crowded places but would like to enjoy a day or two close to a nice beach and see something different than in the other areas we will be visiting.

Thanks for your input !

A little worried about your itinerary plans if you are spending several days around Arenal and Monteverde. You do realize those 2 towns are 3 hours apart right?

Forget about Manuel Antonio if you only have a couple of days as it is a 5 hour drive from Arenal and then another 3 hours back to San Jose. Definitely the wrong direction to head between Arenal and Tortuguero. Would probably make more sense to check out the Caribbean coast before or after Tortugeuro as i'ts much closer. If you take the boat from Tortuguero down toward Limon (the dock is actually in Moin) then you will be less than an hour from Cahuita which has a beautiful beach, hiking trails and wildlife in the national park there. From Cahuita it's a 4 hour drive back to San Jose.

Yes, definitively follow above crfan suggestion. And beaches in Cahuita NP are in pair with the beaches in MA NP. The main info for more detailed suggestion is missing; how many days you will have in Costa Rica?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions ! It makes more sense indeed to go on the Caribean side closer to Limon,...

For Arenal we are staying 2 days, then 2 other days in Monteverde. We were aware that it takes several hours to go from one place to the other.

Thanks again for your useful reply !

Thanks for your input ! I meant Cahuina in my previous reply, not Limon.

We are staying for a total of 10 days in CR ; we are aware that we can't do everything in that amount of time but we want to have an experience as authentic as possible.

Thanks.

You have a lot packed into only 10 days since you are criss crossing the country. If you want to hit the beaches while you are in the Arenal/Monteverde area then think about any number of the beaches along the Guanacaste coast.....this will be much closer than Manuel Antonio. I really like crfan's suggestion of trying to hit Cahuita though. This is a beautiful area and VERY authentic to the old Costa Rica, plus the trip thru the canals of Tortuguero to Limon is unbelievable. Just be smart and safe over there. Enjoy!

If you will have a rental car then best itinerary would be San Jose-Monteverde-Arenal-Tortuguero-Cahuita (Puerto Viejo)-San Jose.
