Boat trips from Manuel Antonio or Uvita

Can anyone recommend a good tour company for a boat trip to Cano Island for snorkeling, or else a catamaran/snorkeling adventure? We are a family of 6, and would love to find a "smaller operator" so we can be in a small group instead of 50+ people. Thank you.

I have to be honest in that it is a LONG boat ride from Manuel Antonio to Cano Island, especially if the seas are even slightly rough. With that said, Oceans unlimited does the trip, Ninas Boat Rentals may be able to help you, or there are several fishing charter boats in our area that will take you for a wonderful snorkel day. Since gas is so expensive here, most people that really really want to do this trip drive to Dominical or Uvita and catch a tour company from there. Even from there you are looking at at least 2 hrs each way by boat, and around 45 mins drive to the Uvita area each way, so it can make for a long day with almost 6 hrs just in travel. Alternatively, there are local options with Planet Dolphin or Sunset Sails (or Ninas Boats) to just snorkel around Manuel Antonio. Granted, it is not as nice as Cano Island, but they are all enjoyable tours nonetheless. Enjoy!

It make a lot sense LivAndLarge advice...it take us in our boat a Boston Whaler about 1.5 hours to Caño from Manuel Antonio...most of the time really nice a lot of sea turtles....dolphins even whales...around December January some strong winds some times...nothing out of this world but just to let you know..

You can try to contact Thomas here at the forum he is Uvita Dominical DE...he knows some great tour operators to take you to Caño Island...

Thanks for the information. Cano Island, though it sounds fabulous, is a long way (and pretty expensive) so we're looking at the more local whale/dolphin watching and snorkeling tours. It sounds like some of the boats are party boats, which is definitely not our thing, but that the Sunset Sails boats are smaller and quieter. Is that correct? Also, there are a lot of comments about rainier weather in the afternoon. We'll be there at the beginning of January - is rain likely to be an issue then? Also, it sounds like the snorkeling is much better at Marino Balleno national park. Is it worth the trip down to Uvita to do a snorkeling excursion there instead? We're really hoping to see dolphins, too, as my daughter is a dolphin nut. Thank you.
