We have a group of people leaving Costa Rica in December and have 5-6 hours to kill in between departures. 3-4 with security and such. We will have a driver so should we go somewhere for lunch or sightsee or both. Any ideas would be appreciated

Go to Alajuela, stroll the streets, do last minute shopping. Or visit the Zoo Ave near Alajuela, a zoo/refugee/rehabilitation centre.
Depending on the timing, there are half day tours such as coffee or butterfly tours. You can also get up to Poas Volcano in that window of time, but you wouldn't have much time to enjoy the sights. To eat up only a few hours, there is a bar/restaurant on the backside of the airport called Mirador where you can eat and watch the planes land. Lastly, you can also go downtown and go to the gold and jade museum if that is something that interests you. Enjoy!
