We are traveling as a group in November and some of our group enjoy a cocktail in the evening :) We are wondering if it is best( selection and price) to buy our weeks supply in the duty free shop in SJO or LAX or wait until we get to Quepos. I know Quepos has 3 grocery stores but I'm unsure where they sell liquor

Hi Skijimbo.....we have lots of places to buy your liquor in Quepos/Manuel Antonio.....however......stock up at the duty free in the San Jose airport....they have a shop in the baggage claim at the airport (while you're waiting for your bags)......this will be your best price......you can always replinish from our local stores.

The best deal is at duty free SJO. (Just purchased liter of Stoli $10.) I'm not sure what the limit is though but the sales agent will advise you. Remember that you will need your passport for the purchase so keep that handy after immigration. Generally we have one person watch for bags while the other goes to duty free and it makes the process move along. You should be able to find what you are missing from SuperMas in Quepos and/or Joseth in MA. If there is a difficult to find item, AutoMercado in Playa Herradura (one hour prior to Quepos) should carry it.
Go for the duty free at arrival...up to 10 bottles per person ...and good good prices!

Duty free is the way to go if you need to purchase alot, otherwise, there are many many options to buy liquor in our area. Just keep in mind.....rum and guaro are cheap......tequila and gin and other top shelf liquors are not popular here, so you will pay more! Enjoy!
